FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRESS RELEASE                                                                  March 9, 2003

The Blaine Bridge Community Preservation Project will have a public meeting, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 12, at 7:00pm, in the Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church, Blaine, Ohio.

At this meeting, the Project welcomes guest speaker, Larry Perkins, First Vice-President of the Ohio Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.  Perkins will address the military history of this area.  He will highlight the 1828 Blaine Bridge’s strategic location and importance in relationship to military activities.  His presentation will include other significant facts about our local area and the Historic National Road in relationship to national development and defense.

“We are very pleased to have Larry present a different perspective about this site’s importance”, said Sue Douglass, project chief officer.  “Developing another educational aspect about our specific area continues to build emphasis on why this particular artifact (the Bridge) is a unique national treasure that must be saved.  With more knowledge, more people will come to understand and appreciate how our piece of the puzzle played an indispensable role in the total picture of American history.”

In other business, the meeting will hear an update about the current funding searches.  To date, the extensive monies required for the Bridge repair are unavailable.  Federal appropriations have not been secured, though efforts continue.  Other committees will make brief reports.  The membership drive continues and the public is urged to attend the meetings.
